Resumo: O milheto é uma espécie da família das gramíneas, utilizada na produção de pastagens para bovinos, feno, silagem e na cobertura do solo em sistema de plantio direto. No entanto, estudos sobre produção de sementes e técnicas de pós-colheita para esta espécie são incipientes considerando-se a demanda e o potencial desta cultura. Diante disso, objetivou-se monitorar a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de milheto armazenadas em embalagem porosa. As sementes de milheto foram armazenadas em quatro condições ambientais (ambiente natural de laboratório, câmara seca, geladeira e freezer). A qualidade fisiológica foi avaliada pelos testes de germinação e vigor antes e durante o armazenamento, anualmente, até 6 anos para o ambiente de câmara seca e de ambiente natural de laboratório e até 12 anos para geladeira e freezer. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e analisados em esquema fatorial 4 x 6 e 2 x 12 (ambiente e período de armazenamento), com médias de ambientes comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (p ≤ 0,05) e períodos de armazenamento por análise de regressão. A capacidade germinativa das sementes de milheto é mais bem conservada em geladeira e freezer, permanecendo viáveis por até doze anos de armazenamento, nestas condições.

Abstract: Millet is a species of the grass family used in cattle pastures, for hay, for silage, and in soil cover in no-tillage systems. However, studies on seed production and post-harvest techniques for this species have not been sufficiently developed, considering the demand for and potential of this crop. The objective of this study was to monitor the physiological quality of millet seeds stored in porous packaging. Millet seeds were stored under four ambient conditions (natural laboratory environment, dry chamber, refrigerator, and freezer). Physiological quality was evaluated by germination and vigor tests before and during storage each year, up to six years for the dry chamber and natural laboratory environment, and up to 12 years for the refrigerator and freezer. Analysis of variance was conducted on the data, which were in 4 × 6 and 2 × 12 (environment and storage period) factorial arrangements. The means of the environments were compared by the Tukey test (p ≤ 0.05) and the storage periods by regression analysis. The germination capacity of millet seeds is best conserved in a refrigerator and freezer, and they remain viable for up to twelve years of storage under these conditions.

RESUMO A flor-leopardo (Belamcanda chinensis) é uma iridácea ornamental exótica no Brasil e cultivada, em seus países de origem (China e Japão), como planta medicinal. A sua multiplicação se dá por rizomas e sementes. Contudo, não há relatos sobre a viabilidade das sementes desta espécie após o armazenamento. Assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a armazenabilidade de sementes de B. chinensis. Para tanto, sementes colhidas entre março e abril de 2010, 2011, 2012 e 2013 foram acondicionadas em sacos de papel e armazenadas, separadamente por ano, em sala sem controle de umidade relativa e temperatura. Em sementes desses quatro anos foram determinados o teor de água, a massa de 100 sementes e o índice de germinação. As sementes recém-colhidas (2013) e as armazenadas por um ano (2012) apresentaram, respectivamente, 72% e 41% de germinação e 80% e 47% de emissão de raiz primária ao final de 20 semanas. No entanto, as sementes com dois e três anos de armazenamento (2010 e 2011) não germinaram. Portanto, as sementes de B. chinensis apresentam viabilidade por até um ano de armazenamento.

ABSTRACT The leopard lily (Belamcanda chinensis) is an exotic ornamental Iridaceae in Brazil and cultivated as a medicinal plant in its countries of origin (China and Japan). It is propagated by rhizomes and seeds; however, the viability of these seeds after storage remains unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the germinability of stored B. chinensis seeds. Seeds harvested between March and April 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 were separated by year and stored in paper bags in a room without relative humidity and temperature control. Seeds from these four years were analyzed for moisture content, 100-seed weight and germination index. The freshly harvested seeds (2013) and those stored for one year (2012) exhibited 72% and 41% germination, respectively, and 80% and 47% primary root emission at the end of 20 weeks. However, seeds stored for two and three years (2010 and 2011) did not germinate. B. chinensis seeds remained viable for up to one year of storage.

RESUMO A capacidade que determinadas espécies têm de manter as sementes viáveis por longos períodos no banco de sementes é essencial para a resiliência ambiental, o que é utilizado na restauração florestal. Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar o comportamento de banco de sementes induzido de P. dubium. A indução do banco de sementes foi feita em fragmento de Floresta Estacional Semidecídual. Foram utilizadas 100 amostras de copos de polietileno, compostas por 25 sementes cada. A cada dois meses, 5 amostras foram retiradas para determinação de: conteúdo de água, viabilidade, porcentagem de emergência de plântulas e porcentagem de predação. As sementes da espécie P. dubium podem permanecer por até 16 meses viáveis enterradas no solo. Esse resultado permite a classificação da espécie como formadora de banco de sementes persistente. A predação de sementes foi o principal fator para que ocorresse a redução do banco de sementes do solo.

ABSTRACT The ability of certain species in keeping the seeds viable for long periods in the soil seed bank is essential for environmental resilience, which is used in forest restoration. This work aimed to study the behavior of a buried seed bank of P. dubium. Burial seed bank was performed in a fragment of Seasonal Semideciduous Forest. One hundred samples consisting of 25 seeds in polyethylene cups were placed under the canopy. Every two months, five samples were taken for determination of water content, viability, emergency (root protrusion and seedling formation) and predation. Seeds of P. dubium may remain buried in the ground for up to 16 months keeping their viability. This result indicates that P. dubium is able to form persistent soil seed bank. The predation was the main factor contributing to the seed bank reduction.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to quantify the tannic content of the barks and fruit of angico-vermelho, jurema-preta and acacia-negra using skin powder as detanizador agent. Materials from these species were ground and classified, with 12.5g of air dried particles subjected to extraction using a steam jacket type extractor to obtain 1000 ml of solution, using a completely randomized analytic design. The solution was evaluated using four treatments: angico bark; jurema bark; acacia bark and angico fruit. Three replicates per treatment were realized and subrepetitions were analyzed in triplicate. The results were interpreted by comparison of means with Tukey test at 5% significance. Best results in terms of total solids content, were observed in acacia bark (67.2%), differing statistically for angico bark (63.5%). The soluble solids content, in turn, was superior to angico bark (60.3%), differing statistically from acacia bark (49.8%). No statistically significant differences for tannin content were observed between acacia and angico barks, which presented values of 28.4 and 26.8%, respectively.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar índices de crescimento do híbrido de Eucalyptus urograndis sob aplicação dos herbicidas triclopyr e fluroxipyr+triclopyr. Utilizou-se delineamento em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições em esquema fatorial (3x2x5), correspondendo aos herbicidas (triclopyr e fluroxipyr+triclopyr), ambos em duas doses (0,75 e 1,5% da concentração de 480 g.e.a L-1 para triclopyr e 80+240 g.e.a L-1 para fluroxipyr+triclopyr) mais uma testemunha (plantas que não receberam aplicação dos herbicidas) e cinco datas de avaliação aos 15, 30, 45, 60 e 75 dias após aplicação (DAA). Aos 45 dias após o transplante das mudas, foram realizadas aplicações com pulverizador costal pressurizado a gás carbônico, equipado com pontas bico (XR 110.02) com volume de calda de 200 L ha-1 e pressão constante de 35 kgf/cm2. Foram avaliados: área foliar (AF), área foliar específica (AFE), razão de área foliar (RAF), razão de peso de folha (RPF), taxa de crescimento absoluto (TCA), taxa de crescimento relativo (TCR) e taxa assimilatória líquida (TAL). A deriva dos herbicidas triclopyr e fluroxipyr+triclopyr no híbrido E. urograndis prejudica o desenvolvimento das plantas no início do estabelecimento. Aos 75 dias após a simulação da deriva dos herbicidas as plantas apresentam características de recuperação dos sintomas de intoxicação. É necessário a realização de estudos superiores a 75 DAA para comprovar a recuperação total dos sintomas de intoxicação de plantas do híbrido de E. urograndis resultante da deriva dos herbicidas em estudo.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate growth rates of E. urograndis under application of triclopyr and fluroxipyr+triclopyr herbicides. Was used a randomized block design with four replications in a factorial design (3x2x5), corresponding to herbicides (triclopyr and fluroxipyr+triclopyr), both with two doses (0.75 and 1.5% concentrations of 480 g and L-1 for triclopyr and 80+240 g and L-1 for fluroxipyr+triclopyr), plus one control (plants that did not receive herbicide application) and five evaluation dates at 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 days after application (DAA). At 45 days after seedlings transplant, applications were performed with pressurized carbon dioxide backpack sprayer, equipped with beak tip (XR 110.02) with spray volume of 200 L ha-1 and constant pressure of 35 kgf/cm2. Were evaluated: leaf area (LA), specific leaf area (SLA), leaf area ratio (LAR), leaf weight ratio (LWR), absolute growth ratio (AGR), relative growth ratio (RGR) and net assimilatory ratio (NAR). The drift of triclopyr and fluroxipyr + triclopyr herbicide in the hybrid E. urograndis affect plant development in the beginning of the establishment. At 75 days after simulation drift of herbicides the plants showed characteristics of the symptoms of intoxication. It’s necessary to perform studies after 75 DAA to verify the complete recovery of the intoxication symptoms of E. urograndis hybrid plants resulting from the herbicide drift in the present study.

RESUMO Belamcanda chinensis é uma planta ornamental cultivada como erva medicinal em seus países de origem: China e Japão. É propagada por rizomas e sementes, mas pouco se sabe sobre as condições ideais para a sua germinação. Objetivou-se avaliar temperaturas de germinação e tratamentos para superar a dormência das sementes. Foram realizados dois experimentos, sendo que o primeiro avaliou os efeitos de temperaturas constantes de 20 ºC, 25 ºC e 30 ºC (no escuro) e 20-30 ºC com luz (fotoperíodo de 8 h), e o segundo envolveu a remoção de combinações da estrutura do tegumento das sementes (com e sem tegumento), com pré-hidratação a 7 ºC, 30 ºC ou sem pré-hidratação, além de tratamento adicional sem tegumento ou pré-hidratação. A alternância da temperatura resulta em melhores efeitos nas variáveis avaliadas, enquanto, para temperaturas constantes, há pouca ou nenhuma germinação. A remoção da estrutura do tegumento externo e das sementes pré-hidratadas a 30 ºC acelera o processo germinativo.

ABSTRACT Belamcanda chinensis is an ornamental plant cultivated as a medicinal herb in its countries of origin: China and Japan. It is propagated by rhizomes and seeds, but little is known on the optimal conditions for its germination. This study aimed to assess germination temperatures and treatments to overcome its seed dormancy. Two experiments were conducted: the first evaluated the effects of constant temperatures of 20 ºC, 25 ºC and 30 ºC (in the dark) and 20-30 ºC with light (8-h photoperiod), while the second one involved the removal of combinations from the seed tegument structure (with and without tegument), with pre-hydration at 7 ºC, 30 ºC or no pre-hydration, in addition to an extra treatment without tegument or pre-hydration. Alternating the temperature results in better effects on the variables evaluated, while, at constant temperatures, there is little or no germination. The removal of the outer tegument structure and from seeds pre-hydrated at 30 ºC accelerates the germination process.

Resumo: O conhecimento sobre estratégias de regeneração natural é importante devido a sua influência no ecossistema local. Objetivou-se estudar o comportamento do banco de sementes aéreo de P. dubium. Os frutos foram colhidos mensalmente antes e após a maturação das sementes em matrizes localizadas no município de Lavras - MG. Mensalmente, foram determinados o conteúdo de água, aquisição da tolerância a dessecação, viabilidade das sementes, manutenção da dormência e tempo médio de germinação. Verificou-se que a maturidade fisiológica da espécie ocorreu no mês de junho, quando foi observado baixo conteúdo de água, máxima matéria seca, e alta porcentagem de germinação. Verificou-se que não houve alteração na dormência, porcentagem de germinação e no perfil proteico de sementes durante o período em que permanecem no banco de sementes aéreo. A espécie P. dubium forma banco de sementes aéreo de curta serotinosidade, com frutos permanecendo presos à planta por 9 meses.

Abstract: Knowledge concerning natural regeneration strategies is important due to the effect of natural regeneration on the local ecosystem. The aim of this study was to examine the ecophysiological aspects of the Peltophorum dubium aerial seed bank. Fruits were harvested monthly, before and after seed maturation, from selected trees in the municipality of Lavras, MG, Brazil, for determination of moisture content, acquisition of tolerance to desiccation, seed viability, maintenance of dormancy, and mean germination time. Physiological maturity of the species was attained in June, when low moisture content, maximum dry matter, and high germination percentage were observed. We found that there was no change in dormancy, in germination percentage, or in the protein profile of seeds during the period they remained in the aerial seed bank. The P. dubium species creates an aerial seed bank of short serotiny, with fruits remaining attached to the tree for 9 months.
